Coopers Friday Night Footy Preview
The Sherwood ‘Thirsty 3rds’ aka the Woodsmen kick off the senior Season tonight after the U11Girls game vs Wests in a fantastic double header at McCarthy Homes Oval to open the Sherwood AFC season in 2020.
In what could modestly be described as an ‘experienced’ side, Sherwood will feature 3 former senior QAFL Captains, 7 x Bill Peirce Medals, over 1,000 senior games and a total of 16 x Senior Premiership medals in the lineup, not to mention 3 x Woodsmen Premiership players and a few Colts Premiership winners thrown in as well!
Making their official Woodsmen debut in a fixtured match are Val Pope, Gareth Crawford and Joel Workman.
There is also a bit of experience in the emergency list with the ageless David Jackson (aka The Minister of Defence from the early 2000’s QAFL days) and club stalwart and current President Andrew Thomson.
The Woodsmen have actually held several training sessions in recent weeks, increasing the training load from 2019 by approximately ‘several’! No doubt after being locked up for a few months, the older heads are enjoying hitting the track and building the atmosphere among the group. Captain/Coach Chris Mihalopoulos has named a balanced side and they are raring to go.
If you’re looking to enjoy a great night at the footy, get down to watch the Sherwood U11 Girls from 6pm, enjoy a few beers and a meal and then settle into watch the Woodies take on Morningside in what should be a high quality hitout.
