Place Player Update - BRENT STAKER TO PLAY IN EJ WHITTEN LEGENDS MATCH
Andrew Thomson
Former Western Magpies key forward Brent Staker will play in tonight’s E.J (Ted) Whitten legends match at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
Staker played for the Pies in 2016 before taking on an Assistant Coach’s role with the Brisbane Lions successful AFL Womens’ team in 2017.
Staker, originally from Broken Hill, will play for the Allies team tonight and he will be one of the fitter and trimmer players going around on the ground. He has kept himself fit and in good news for the Pies is contemplating a return to the Pies in 2018 for a number of games when his other commitments allow.
Staker was recruited to the West Coast Eagles in 2003 before joining the Brisbane Lions in 2010 where he played 50matches until 2015. He struggled with soft tissue injuries which limited his appearances while at the Lions so has been in training for tonight’s match to lessen the chances of further injury. He played 110 matches for the Eagles for a total of 160 AFL matches.
The match will be shown live tonight on 7Mate and FoxFooty channel.
