RESERVES LOOK FOR TWO WINS IN A ROW
The Western Magpies Reserves will be looking to make it two wins in a row when they take on Wilston Grange at Stafford on Saturday.
The Pies have several keys ins for the match with Logan Murray in for his first match of the season and he will add some strength to the midfield in the absence of the promoted Brodie Easton and still injured Bryce Crossley.
Also in are winger Luke Brennan and Lachie Dennis goes into the centre and both will be keen to impress the selectors to get an early recall back to the Seniors.
Jeremy DeRooy and Sempitake Kwizera come back in after missing last week and both will also add to the Pies forward power and Kurt Vine returns to add height to the backline.
The Pies midfield looks strong with ruckman Nathan Congram impressing with his strong marking and contested work and with Sam Hartog, Sam DeNys and Murray form a formidable midfield quartet. Add Aaron Maricic and the Pies should get the ball forward often enough to kick a winning score. Another good match by Maricic and he will be knocking on the door of Senior selection. Gerard Moore provides the big forward target as he continues to build match fitness and youngster Finn Collison the mobile forward target and with Kwizera and Sam Parker livewires at ground level the Pies are capable of kicking a big score.
The half back line of Peter Kilroy, Chris Hunt and Sean Mewing is solid and can be an attacking weapon and with Harry Marshall and Sean McEvoy in the backline with impressive newcomer Zach Collison the Pies back six looks strong. Marshall’s goal last week did not get him out of the backline and McEvoy’s goal kicking deficiencies have resulted in him moving deep into defence!!
The Magpies will want to consolidate in the five against a Grange team sitting eighth on the ladder and they cannot afford any more losses in matches they should win.
