COLTS SNATCH NARROW WIN IN NAIL-BITER
The Western Magpies Colts have won a nail-biter over Wilston Grange in a Colts heavyweight battle between the second and third teams on the ladder. The Pies Colts now go to second place on the ladder to establish themselves as one of the teams to beat in 2018.
The Pies looked down and out late in the game at one point but fought back with 2 late goals to snatch a 5 point win, 7.9-51 to 6.10-46.
The match was an evenly fought game with both defensive units not giving an inch, making scoring difficult.
Rover Dan Edwards continues his fine 2018 form with another prolific ball winning match, defender Chris Moloney was tight at the back, centreman Jacob Sheath was again in the thick of the action and Zane Lovell and Chris Jenkins were also busy players. Ruckman Samson Ryan was again impressive and it was a quality first outing in the Black & White for Bruce Reville.
An innacurate Grange side costs themselves a half time lead before bursting to life in the 3rd quarter to kick 5 straight and take an 8 point lead into the final change, however the Magpies came home strong with 5 scoring shots to 2 in the final term to convert their field position to goals and the 4 points in a tight contest.
The Pies have another bye before they get a string of matches in a row starting in a fortnight, will go a long way to allowing these team to build momentum as the season progresses.
