RESERVES GET SEASON BACK ON TRACK
The Western Magpies Reserves have got their season back on track with a comprehensive 47 point victory over Wilston Grange on Saturday.
Like their Senior counterparts, the Reserves were generous in the last quarter to allow Grange late goals to reduce the winning margin, but generally dominated the contest. The Pies won 16.8-104 to 8.9-57.
The Magpies were on the front foot from the first bounce and established an early lead which they held onto for the match and had the game well in their keeping by three quarter time.
Young rover/small forward Sam Parker was a livewire all match and he has been a good inclusion for the Pies, while Aaron Maricic continues to push his case for a Senior recall with another polished display in midfield and up forward. His clean ball handling skills and accurate disposal are back to what they were several years ago before a spate of injuries affected his fitness. Gerard Moore was again a tower of strength at centre half forward with his marking ability and deft touches bringing teammates into the play and veterans Sean Mewing, Peter Kilroy and Sean McEvoy were almost impassable at half back and they showed there is plenty of life in the old dogs yet.
Jeremy DeRooy was a strong marking forward target and he finished with 4 goals after missing last match.
The Pies will be strengthened in coming weeks with the expected return of Lachlan Woods and Val Pope as they host Labrador and Morningside in successive weeks.
